Iceland's Blue Lagoon

Friday, September 20, 2013

We wrapped up our Iceland trip by soaking at the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa before heading straight to the airport. Blue Lagoon is a man made lagoon that has pools of water heated by the lava flow underground. The milky white water is rich in minerals and said to have healing properties. The sun was shining and it was almost blinding as it reflected off the white water, steam, and rocks. We soaked for hours among heads covered in white silica mud masks, in between breaks inside a steam room cave. It was the perfect way to relax after days of exploring and before a long flight home.

Blue Lagoon well worth the money and definitely a spot you don't want to miss in Iceland, even if you are passing through Iceland for only a few hours (the spa is only 20 minutes from the airport).

  14. Incredible. These have to be my favourites photos I've seen of the Blue Lagoon yet... Although I've heard it can be overrated & that there are better spots, your photos quite prove the opposite. x

    1. Must for Wanderlust - It is really popular and can be busy, but for good reason! You can find smaller hot springs pools and saunas in almost every Icelandic city, but nothing like the Blue Lagoon. Go to those as well if you want more solitude. It's really quite fancy and totally worth the money. Something like this would not be any cheaper in the States.

  43. I just found your blog through your Instagram photos and I love it! Me and my boyfriend are going to Iceland in March with my parents for a short trip and one of our excursions is to the Blue Lagoon. Your photos are absolutely stunning and I can't wait to visit! I was just wondering though, if the floor of the lagoon is smooth or sandy etc? The water not being clear makes me a little nervous haha!
I'm off to look at the rest of your Iceland photos now!

    1. aprileverday - Thanks for saying hi! The Blue Lagoon is man made (though the geothermal water is natural), so the bottom is not scary at all. It's more like a pool with a bit of sand at the bottom. :)

(I get free tickets with my airline miles) would you recommend going in a different month since you said it was so cold? I think that's it for now (:
