Colorado Road Trip

Monday, June 16, 2014

We are headed on an awesome 2-week camping road trip in a couple days around the Pacific Northwest. We can't wait to get out in nature, explore, and wrap up every day with a campfire. In preparation for that, we wanted to share some photos from a roadtrip (not camping) that we did last summer through Colorado and Utah.

We decided we need to explore Colorado a bit during our last trip to Denver for a wedding. We left Denver and headed West to Aspen with a couple stops. First stop was in Leadville, an old mining town, for lunch and some browsing through antiques. Second stop was in a little scenic mountain town called Twin Lakes. The drive up to Independence Pass was beautiful. Once we got to the top (elevation 12,096 ft.) we spent some time taking in the views, amazed that we were able to drive up a mountain so high without having to climb it. We finally arrived in Aspen, booked a last minute hotel, and spent our time checking out this cool little ski town in the summer. The next day we drove to Grand Junction and headed to the Colorado National Monument. We drove the 23 mile Rim Rock Drive at sunset with plenty of stops. This was one of the coolest drives. We probably would have been walking instead of driving, because we pulled over every couple minutes. We stayed the night in Grand Junction, and headed out to Moab, Utah the next day (post coming tomorrow).

One of the best things about taking road trips together is that we are both photographers and don't mind  pulling u-turns and stopping way too often when we see something cool and need a photo. I can't imagine what it'd be like to road trip with someone who wants to get there faster rather than enjoy the ride and stop for photos.

  10. A road trip in the NW sounds ideal. I'm the same when I'm on my road trips too lol. Always making random stops and u-turns, camping out until the light is perfect...

    1. Kimberly - We usually bring one Nikon D700 or D800 and share. But we also bring our Fuji x100s, for times when I want to throw something smaller and lighter in my bag.
